So I was on youtube last night looking at the new videos from my subscription channels and I saw a response to magibon from iJustine (Justine Ezarik). Of course immediately I youtube search magibon and find a ton of responses to her videos….Finally I find her channel, which is called MRirian, not magibon, and watch some of her videos.
I agree, she is adorable, but I still don’t get it. She has a video with her nodding and making squinty faces that has over a million views! That about blew my socks off! Seriously though, this magibon youtube phenom is insane, and now it’s coming to the US. We can’t understand what this little pipsqueak is saying, but people are still posting responses to her, mimicking her videos, and posting video responses. I understand the soldier boy fad, I get the ghost ride ya whip fad, but I have to say this magibon thing may take a while for me to really get into…I mean I can understand why it would be fun to mimic her, in fact I might just do that, but before I jump on the band wagon, anyone have any insights as to why she is so popular? Or how she got so popular? I’m really in the dark here…

I agree that it seems baffling.
My guess is that she’s become so popular mainly because she’s a real-life manifestation of so many Japanese anime characters. She’s a fantasy come to life.

Magibon is not a Japanese girl. She is White or Latina from Florida. Her parodies started though out the world only because everyone wanted to copy this American girl
Personally, I think she is crazy, and needs some serious help.

She is really just being herself, and in today’s society, people just cannot understand that.

She was on “Gyao”, a Japanese Talk show the other day, the host asked her why she posted these videos on You Tube and she said, I quote ” I just got a web-cam, so I just wanted to see myself on the camera. I didn’t think that anyone would watch them”. Now to solve this case, I must know use reverse-psychology technique to have a go at it.
First of all this girl is crazy about Japanese cultures like dramas, movies, songs, foods and other TV shows. She probably watches these programs on cable at home. She managed to learn some of Japanese words and accent out of watching these media and she is probably taking Japanese as an elective subject at school. now, one of the interesting thing on her videos is that she doesn’t talk much, I would say that she trying to hide her crooked teeth, which is fine. However, one would argue that she spoke Japanese in some of her video and I have investigated them.
An interesting point taken from her videos is that when she spoke the word ” Bye Bye” at the end of videos, she did infact said it in Japanese-alike accent; I could definitely say for sure that she was assuming a role playing. To elaborate on point, she thinks that she looks like a Japanese anima characters and if you have seen Japanese anime, you would see that almost every anime studio depicts a female character as half Japanese-European, like big eyes, long face and whitish skin tone, looking very innocent. Also, she was making faces like you have seen on her videos. Let me tell you that in in many Asian countries, especially Japan consider this facial gesture as innocent. Many of Japanese girls dream of becoming one of these characters but they can’t, because pure Japanese descendants do not look like that at all, they look Asian.
Getting back to the point of why she has become famous, is that many people start viewing her videos and doesn’t understand the videos, I don’t personally blame these people because Magibon did not talk, she was just staring at the camera and making cute face. If you do a simple maths, you’d know that if say 10 people responsed to her videos, and then you have another ten viewing those response videos and that is 100; keep multiplying. I bet you that those people who either response to the videos or just viewing them would sure like to know why there are these weird videos, then they would go and have look at the orginal poster, in this case is Magidon, so hitting amillion viewers is achievable.
I am certain that she did not seek attention or anything like that. It was actually people who making funny-fake Magibon videos that make her famous. She is now very famous in Japan, it is no point whether you response her videos or not, she will still be famous, at least now anyway. In addition, the more people faking her videos, the more famous she will be. “There is no such a thing as a bad press”
